Sequential batch reactors (SBR) are a type of activated sludge process for the treatment of wastewater. Oxygen is bubbled through the mixture of wastewater and activated sludge to reduce the organic matter (measured as biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) and chemical oxygen demand (COD)). The treated effluent may be suitable for discharge to surface waters or possibly for use on land.

Each tank in the SBR system is filled during a discrete period of time and then operated in batches. After desired treatment, the mixture is allowed to settle and the clarified supernatant is then drawn from the tank.

Membrane Bio Reactors is a term used to define a method of waste water treatment where a membrane is used along with the activated sludge process. This process uses the membrane as a filter, rejecting the solid materials which are developed by the biological process, resulting in a clarified and disinfected product effluent.

These systems are designed for onsite plug-and-play operations making them ideal for remote locations that lack the civil infrastructure for brick and mortar plants. The container tanks can be designed with materials such as Fibre Reinforced Plastic (FRP), Mild Steel (MS) or any other material based on the client’s specifications and requirements. The biological processes remain the same as well as the overall quality of the treated wastewater.
